Tutorials

I have been looking at different tutorials for Adobe Flash on Youtube. These are very helpful in learning how to do different things if you cant stand to read a book. I am trying to create a visual gallery in flash. I have done this in the past but I am not really sure how to recreate exactly what I need. I believe that tutorials are very helpful and I greatly appreciate the individuals that create these videos for me to learn from. So if you ever want to learn how to do something you should try and find a tutorial on how to do that because I believe that it is easier to use as a reference guide than a book.

Clients

Clients can be difficult to work with depending on what they need, how fast they want the products, and the amount of communication they give. I have recently dealt with a client that called and asked if I could take family pictures for them. I agreed to the date and location. That was the only information I was given from the client, when I got to the shoot I was astonished by the size of the family and the amount of different shots they wanted. The family that I thought was five ended up being eleven people. So my original ideas on posing went out the window when I pulled up to the location of the shoot. Also the wanted one with just the parents and kids, then one with the parents, kids, spouses, and grandchildren, one of just the grandchildren, then one of each one of their children’s family. I guess without asking the client more questions you don’t really know what you will be dealing with as a photographer. So I guess doing this photo shoot with this client helped me grow as a photographer by learning from experience. I learned you have to ask more from a client than just time and location you cant just assume what they want as a client.

Interesting Blog

In my digital photography class we have to do weekly image responses. She emailed us a link of a blog recently to do our Image response on. This blog is titled My Hometown Ohio, while looking at this blog I found many different activities and landmarks that I never knew existed in Ohio. So I wanted to share this specific blog with everyone to see how many landmarks and activities you didn't know existed in the state of Ohio.

Pinwheels for Preventions

As I was looking at some friends Facebook pages the other day I looked upon my sisters page who is a high school english teacher and her status said something about a child abuse prevention and recognition training. When looking at this I wondered how people could abuse a child. I personally have a friend who lost a nephew sue to child abuse. This child's story is upsetting but the people who abused him are no serving the time they deserved but I still want to know how anyone can hurt a child. In knowing this story I wondered the facts of child abuse in our nation. This is what I found:

1. Almost five children die everyday as a result of child abuse. More than three out of four are under the age of 4.

2. Child abuse occurs at every socio-economic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education.

3. Ninety percent of child sexual abuse victims know the perpetrator in some way; 68% are abused by family members.

4. Children who have been sexually abused are 2.5 times more likely develop alcohol abuse.

5. Children who have been sexually abused are 3.8 times more likely develop drug addictions.

6. Abused children are 25% more likely to experience teen pregnancy.

7. A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds.

8. About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children, continuing the horrible cycle of abuse.

9. About 80% of 21 year old that were abused as children met criteria for at least one psychological disorder.

10. The estimated annual cost resulting from child abuse and neglect in the United States for 2007 is $104 billion.

Where I got these facts: http://www.childhelp.org/resources/learning-center/statistics

I also found a very good website about child abuse prevention. There slogan is Pinwheels for Prevention, here is the link for this website: http://www.pinwheelsforprevention.org/

Friends After High School

In high school how can you be close to so many people but the day after graduation you guys stop talking?

I realized this over the weekend when I was at a social event with some teachers that I had in high school. It was weird that our small class of thirteen I can only tell you where three of them are today. I only know this because of going to college with them. I also think thats its crazy you were so close in high school you barley talk to this day. You may say hello when you run into each other on the street but other than that no one really makes a motion to stay close friends after high school.

Is there a reason for this?
Are we as individuals changing? Or just growing apart?

Camera Stores

The difference between a retail store and a photography store is amazing. I recently went to Fairborn Camera to buy a couple items for my Nikon D90. I went to purchase another DSLR zoom lens and a external flash. If I would have tried to to to a store like Walmart or Meijer I wouldn't have been able to find what I was looking for so in going to a official camera store designed to help you. When I went I was with a good friend of mine who needed help finding some things for her photography class at Sinclair and the employees were able to answer all of our questions and help us locate anything that we needed.

With purchasing all of camera supplies at this specific locations I know that if you have a problem with your camera you can call in for help. So the other day I was having a problem with my camera, it was having an error. So I picked up the phone and they walked me through on how to fix it. I found this outstanding customer service and I believe that this is a very reliable camera store. I would recommend this store to any one that is purchasing a camera or has a question.

Voice

The difference from reading this essay to watching him read it was outstanding. I enjoyed watching him read his essay over reading the essay. I believe that the video had more impact because you could hear the tone within his voice. I believe that they would work good together if you had the actual transcript in your hand while watching the video. I believe that he was speaking to his audience as he read his essay and that I as part of his audience. His voice was created by his audience who made him comfortable and the fact that the essay was created to be funny.
